| I. The Holy Trinity We believe in one living God who has existed eternally. He is the Creator of all things. He reveals Himself as the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. (Genesis 1:1; Psalm 90:2; John 14:16-17; 2 Corinthians 13:14; 1 Peter 1:2) II. Jesus Christ We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is at the same time, fully God and fully man. He was born of a virgin, became like us to bring us salvation. Jesus lived a sinless life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all mankind by dying on the cross. He rose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. (Matthew 1:20-25; John 1:14; Philippians 2:5-11) III. The Holy Spirit We believe in the Holy Spirit, who is active in the world, making us aware of our need of Jesus, and bringing us to salvation. He lives in every believer from the moment of salvation and provides power for living, understanding spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. He sanctifies believers. (John 14:26; 16:7-8; Acts 1:8; Ephesians 5:18) IV. The Bible We believe that the Bible is the Word of God, giving us all we need to know about how to be saved. It is God's Word to us written by human authors under the inspiration/guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the inerrant source of absolute truth for all people. (Psalm 119:105; 2 Timothy 3:15-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21) V. Man and Sin We believe that we are all sinners by both nature and acts. We were created in God's spiritual image, to be like Him in character. All men have potential for good, but are marred by an attitude of rebellion and disobedience toward God. This attitude is called "sin". Sin, a voluntary violation of a known law of God, separates us from God and brings many problems into our lives. We all need God's forgiveness and cleansing. Sin Nature: Psalm 51:5; Jeremiah 17:9-10; Mark 7:21-23; Romans 5:12-14 Sin Acts/Personal: John 8:34-36; Romans 3:23; 6:23 VI. Salvation/Atonement We believe Jesus Christ, the Son of God, died on the Cross to pay the penalty for our sin, and that, by trusting in His death, we can be restored to a right relationship with God. (Isaiah 53:5-6,11; Mark 10:45; John 1:12;3:14-17; Romans 6:23; 1 John 2:1-2) Each person must repent, turn away from his sins, and trust Christ to accept him. We are sorry for our sins and we choose to agree with God. (2 Chronicles 7:14; Psalms 51:16-17; Isaiah 55:6-7; Acts 2:38) We believe that when we turn from our sin and trust in Christ, the Old record of sin is wiped clean: "Just as if" we had never sinned, we have new life in Christ; We become part of the family of God. All things take place in the moment of repentance. (John 1:12-13; Acts 13:39; Romans 5:1;8:1; 15-17; 2 Corinthians 5:17) VII. Sanctification We believe that after we receive new life in Christ, we need the fullness of the Holy Spirit in our hearts. When we make a complete surrender of ourselves to Him, He cleanses our spirit, fills us with perfect love, and gives us the power to live our lives totally surrendered to Christ. This is a work that is instantaneous and then progressive. The Holy Spirit enters our lives when we are saved, but we must choose to make Him "Lord" of our lives by giving up the desire to live for ourselves. We choose to live for God's purposes, for His glory. (John 17:15-19; Acts 1:5; 2:1-4; Romans 12:1-2; 2 Corinthians 7:1; Galatians 2:20; 5:22-25; Ephesians 3:14-21; Philippians 3:10-15; 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24; I John 1:17) VIII. Sacraments We believe that God ordained two sacraments: The Lord's Supper and Baptism. The Lord's Supper is a statement of our faith in Christ, a reminder of His sacrificial death that brought us salvation. (Luke 22:17-20; 1 Corinthians 11:23-29) We urge people to be baptized after they become Christians as a public testimony of their faith in Christ. Baptism symbolizes the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. (Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 2:38-41; Romans 6:3-4) IX. The Second Coming of Christ We believe that those who have not accepted Christ as their personal Savior will be judged by God in His perfect justice and doomed to eternal punishment. (Matthew 25:31-46; 2 Corinthians 5:10) We believe that Jesus is coming again, that He will return and receive believers into eternal life in heaven. The time of his return is unknown to all men, but it could be at any moment. This is our great hope! (Matthew 24:36-44) |
